Week four.

Sunday, January 22
We successfully got all of us out the door for church for the first time since Olive was born! A little late but we did it! My friend was serving in the nursery at church, so I felt comfortable leaving Olive knowing she’d be there. I still cried when I dropped her off though. I was glad that we were all in the church building but man that was tough.

She lasted about 20 minutes until I got a text that she wouldn’t calm down so I went and sat with her in the nursing mother’s room for the rest of service. It took her a while to calm down, even with me. Sweet girl was crying so hard her face started to get a rash.

She fell asleep in the car on the drive home so we drove around for a bit to give her extra time to sleep. Once we got home we snapped some pictures to document the day.

This next one is my favorite. Her face! She was not happy with us. (I can’t stop zooming in on her face!)

9 months old! I can’t. How?!

After church, we built legos for quite a while together while Olive napped. This is what Lee and Jack worked on. Some sort of “guy”lair.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1roPCWw44zdfewlCGEice1Ps6wK29MOMX
Here’s what I worked on: a cozy kitchen and living room for the “guys.” It’s so funny how different we are! I typically try to build like them and don’t do a very good job. So this day I decided to use what I know and like and enjoyed myself! And the boys seemed so impressed and snatched up all my creations so fast! It felt like a reminder to me to stay in my lane, use what I have and not try to mimic what someone else has. The boys were more impressed and excited about what I created when I did.

Sweet, sleepy girl. I love the smooshy face.

Boys!

Olive really seems to enjoy mashed potatoes. Luca called her Santa Claus.

Any guesses who she’s looking at? (Hint: rhymes with shmuca and shmack)

After the gym, school got off to a slow start this am. I was trying to do too many things at once and was having technical difficulties with one task. After lunch, it went smoothly and seamlessly, thankfully.

After school, when I focused on one thing at a time, I was able to get so much more done.
When Lee gets home, he holds Olive while I make dinner. They typically end up sitting at the counter and Oli plays with kitchen utensils while Lee and I talk about the day.

Jack’s writing response for the day. All the boys ever talk about is defeating daddy (and Uncle Josh).

After the gym we did school and then my dad came over to play with the boys while I took Olive for her 9 month well check. She’s healthy and thriving and we’re so grateful! Here are her stats: 20 lbs 3.5 oz (80th %ile), 27.5 inches (43rd %ile), head circumference 46 cm (94th %ile).
She was checking out her paperwork, making sure it was all there.

After the doctor, we came home and relaxed while Olive napped. I prepped dinner and then once Lee got home we walked up to our garage and had the boys do a CrossFit style workout to move and burn energy.
Olive was killing me all bundled up, happy as can be to tag along. (Also, the way she looks at her daddy!)

After the workout, I finished dinner and we did showers/baths. Before bed, Luca asked to snuggle Olive. He played his sweet “where is Olive” game where he rubbed noses with her when he found her. Bestill my heart!

The way she’s looking at this photo album kills me.

I was so pleased with this workout, I pushed myself and met/surpassed a goal I set for myself for it. One minute of work (wall walk or snatches) followed by one minute of rest for 16 minutes.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=11IJ7QXmD5Z67XEylVNt-dGa9hCox9Y4h
I made a GF, DF lasagna (which I hadn’t eaten in years because I wasn’t sure how to get DF ricotta) and both Olive and I are big fans.

After school and lesson prep, I downloaded all of the pictures from my phone to my hard drive. It took hours because I’m the worst at getting pictures off of my phone. I’m a photo hoarder I suppose. Once they were off, I scrolled through the pictures on the hard drive and sent this one to my mom from 2020.

Thursday, January 26
We started the day at the gym, per usual. I lunged and lunged until my glutes fell off.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1wGEclFJlTI6f6yZpw273AXj_Q7eqmJ3g
I loved Jack’s drawing this day and Luca’s handwriting looked so neat.

Olive does this breathy laugh where she inhales and chuckles and scrunches up her nose (like below) and it’s my favorite.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1vDsNP-kRdkwmUwvRdiAImLwVaoFbvnTN
My friend and her almost 18 month old son came over this afternoon and the boys got out all of the toys they thought he might like and would be safe for him to play with. Their concerns and thought processes were so genuinely sweet. Luca was concerned that the big Spider-Man toy’s knee creases could potentially pinch his finger. Jack asked if he would climb on his bed because if he did, his scissors would be within reach. And I noticed the step stool (which they no longer need) had been pulled up to the sink in case he needed to wash his hands (Luca did that). Sweet boys. They thought of everything.

When he arrived he was a bit shy and hung by the door. The boys set up all the toys for him while he did.

Jack reading to Luca, all the heart eyes for this scene.

Olive figured out a new trick while I made dinner and her faces here are the best.

Friday, January 27
This day marked 40 weeks on the outside for Olive. It felt like a momentous day! I can’t believe she’s been out for that long. It felt like it took forever for her to get here and once she did time sped up.  https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1FcFwmv2FwV25d6ysGMjPtc5zMgBwtkRs
I gave the boys an assignment to create their own golden tickets that gave them access to a dream come true (we’re reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory). Luca took that and made it his own by making his golden ticket a way to serve someone by making them lunch. He hid it, so whoever found it was the person he made lunch for. It wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for the assignment, but I went with it because he chose to serve in place of dreaming up something for himself?! I love homeschool, it truly gives kids ownership over what they’re learning.
Jack was the lucky winner of that golden ticket and here’s what Luca made him for lunch. He got to choose which plate/items he wanted from all of those options.

Then, he created more golden tickets and dressed as Willy Wonka and played that all afternoon.

I changed Olive, then put her down so I could go wash my hands. I walked back in to this scene.

Meanwhile, Jack was making some sort of trap for his guys.

After Lee finished work, he and the boys ran to pick up groceries and dinner. I stayed home with Olive and facetimed Jamya and Isaac. We got to hear Isaac read to us too, which was such a treat.

Olive was VERY fussy this night. She must be teething again, poor girl.

Saturday, January 28
We went to the gym this am.
https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1rR2Bzr6WMQZrN8HFs4OItjnqC1-c4LmI
After the gym we picked up groceries and came home to clean. The boys spent some time with Lee and then he dropped them off at my parents for a sleepover. When I finished cleaning we grabbed takeout and brought it home and watched the new Jurassic World movie.
After nursing and before bed, her love of a selfie cracks us up!
