Week forty five.two

Thursday, November 9
We skipped the gym this am so Olive could sleep. Then we went to the chiro for our adjustments and had a slow day catching up on school and laundry.

We read the Bible and talked about Lazarus and then put on grave cloths and tore out of them. It was a really fun object lesson to go along with the story (She Reads Truth for the win).

Goodness I could eat her.

I turned the corner to see Jack reading to her and I LOVED it. He always says he doesn’t know how to read but he does! Here is proof! Also, how sweet to see your big babies reading to your tiny baby?

Olive has continued to sing, copying the tune I’m singing or the music she hears on her own and I’m obsessed with her sweet, soft singing voice. This is a screenshot from a video I took of us dueting “hallelujah.”

Friday, November 10
My only picture this day. The day was full of the gym, school, and Friday chores. My favorite part of the day was laughing all together over dinner at a joke Luca was playing that Jack hysterically fell for. Lee cut Luca’s hair before dinner and said he vacuumed Luca’s nipple while cleaning up the hair. Luca then said one of his nipples was gone, sucked up into the vacuum and pulled his shirt down hurt just right to show Jack that it was gone.  Luca kept winking at me to ensure I knew he was kidding (lol). Jack’s face and words were so funny! In the end he yelled, “I’m keeping my nipples and that’s final!” We all died laughing and Luca fessed up he was joking.

Saturday, November 11
This morning we did the Veteran’s Day workout “Chad” which was 1,000 step-ups to a 20” box. The original workout is written to do the step-ups with a 45# ruck bag (for men, I can’t remember the women’s weight). Lee wore his 20# weight vest and I did it without any additional weight.

After my 300 step, I said to Lee that I didn’t think I could actually do this. Mike, who was beside me, must’ve overheard me or seen my face and immediately said, “you gave birth three times! You can do this.” I turned and immediately started stepping and said “he’s right! I did do that.” It shifted my mindset from “I can’t” to “oh yeah, I can. I can do hard things.” I wasn’t sure how far I’d get, but I just kept stepping. I thought about how labor was longer (and way more painful) than this, I thought about the veteran, Chad, and the purpose behind the pain in this workout, and I thought about how Olive was there in front of me, watching. And I just kept stepping. I hit around 700 steps and thought, “oh my goodness, I can totally do this!” And then I did. 76 minutes and 41 seconds later, I did it.

So often I think I can’t do something hard, and it’s moments like this when I realize I can. CrossFit has taught me so much about life and faith and who God made me to be. I think I could write an entire book about all the lessons I’ve learned in that gym!

My sweet friends took Olive once they finished and let me finish. They split the workout, so they had a good bit of time to wait for others (like me, the last one done) to finish. They love on Olive so well everyday, and this day was no different. At the end, my friend Krista brought a small box over and put it in front of me and helped Olive step up with me. I had less than 100 steps to go, I felt like I was going to throw up, but I tried not to think about that and instead chose to look up at Olive. Looking at her kept me going, her sweet steps and her watchful eye was my push to finish. She and her brothers are my push to be better in life, to work harder, to forgive 77 times 7, to apologize freely, to love intentionally, to not give up when it gets hard, and to keep showing up. It was a gift to share the hard of this workout with her in this way.

See? So many life lessons at CrossFit.

Gemma made muffins and so generously gave the bag of leftovers to the boys. Which they were pumped to receive because they were so hungry and I didn’t think to pack snacks since the workout was longer than usual. Extra grateful for this village!

My parents offered to give us some time this afternoon so after Olive’s nap, we dropped them off and then Lee and I ran to do a quick exchange and then walked on the greenway. We grabbed some things from the grocery store and headed home to make and enjoy dinner at home, just us. It was simple and so special. I’m so grateful for the gift of time with Lee and for the gift my parents are.

In the middle of our walk, deer walked right out in front of us! I was very excited.

I got these from my mom. It’s safe to say the kids had fun without us. They sure do love their nana and pops.
